CASE STUDY

E Commerce Management

Subscription commerce that stopped fighting prepaid boxes and one-off orders

Knit & Keep sold subscriptions and gifts on a theme that treated both as the same SKU. We rebuilt catalog, prepaid boxes, and checkout so subscriptions, skips, and gifts do not collide.

The operational problem

A gift checkout could accidentally start a subscription. A skip month still charged. Support lived in the gap.

Chargebacks and angry gift-givers are expensive. The brand was becoming “the company that bills you twice.”

What was breaking down

  • One SKU pretending to be two products
  • Skip logic that did not talk to billing
  • Gift messages lost after payment

How Striders Tech approached it

We split the catalog into purchase types the checkout understands: subscribe, prepaid, one-time, gift. Billing follows the type, not a tag.

What we built

  • Purchase-type aware catalog
  • Skip and pause that hit the processor correctly
  • Gift checkout that cannot enroll the recipient
  • Support tools to see type, not just order number

Results the team can measure

  • Gift orders no longer convert into accidental subs
  • Skip month matches the invoice
  • Tickets about “why was I billed” dropped after launch

Who this case study is for

DTC brands who bolted subscriptions onto a theme and are paying for it in support.

Knit & Keep operates in dtc retail. The work is a custom system designed around their process, not a generic template with extra fields bolted on.

THE OUTCOME

no longer convert into accidental subs

Skip month

Tickets

about “why was I billed” dropped after launch

THE TAKEAWAY

Good software doesn't add complexity. It removes it.
